The Metstrade Show will be held from 15 to 17 November 2022 in Amsterdam and is known as the world's largest trade fair for marine equipment, materials and systems. Icomia and Metstrade are pleased to announce that Cory Combs, the co-founder of Ampaire, a startup developing the next generation of hybrid-electric aircraft to reduce the environmental impact of air travel, will deliver the breakfast speech at Metstrade 2022.
A maritime trade show featuring international allure
This international B2B fair for the maritime recreation industry, which was first organized in 1988, establishes contacts that lead to collaborations in the field of innovation, market developments and networks. In addition to the general recreational boating industry, the focus is on three specialized sectors, namely Superyachts, Marinas and Wharfs and Building Materials.
The renowned METSTRADE Breakfast Briefing is the unmissable three-day opening of the world's largest gathering of maritime professionals.
Presentation Cory Combs describes recreational boating as a model for sustainability innovation
In his presentation, Combs will explain an important starting point of his experience at Ampaire, where great strides have been made by starting small. For example, the company is developing rapidly in the field of hybrid propulsion for small passenger and cargo aircraft, which has already resulted in fuel savings of no less than 40%.
Cory's presentation will further explore how recreational boating can become a model for introducing innovation on aquatic sustainability.
Udo Kleinitz, Secretary General at ICOMIA, said: “We are delighted to welcome Cory Combs to the breakfast briefing in 2022. METSTRADE and ICOMIA continuously strive to lead the industry across in the field of sustainability. Both the aviation and leisure industries are exploring carbonization strategies and face similar challenges. I am excited to hear about the lessons learned and to discuss how to better achieve sustainability in the maritime sector."
Combs is graduated from Stanford University with bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering. He worked as an R&D engineer for a cleantech startup and then on X-plane projects for Northrop Grumman before co-founding Ampaire in 2016.
Green Opportunities
Speaking of the shared learning opportunities in naval and space, he says: “ I am honored to speak at METSTRADE's 2022 Keynote Speech. The maritime leisure industry shares many challenges with aviation, especially small aircraft, in terms of public perception and difficulty. to go green. In aviation, there's the flight shaming movement, and there's been quite a bit of boot shaming lately. The maritime leisure industry, like aerospace, will stick out like a sore thumb unless we point the way to a cleaner future. At Ampaire, we have learned great lessons about electrifying aircraft for marine applications. Both industries are well positioned to kick-start the technologies and supply chain needed to achieve sustainability. The only option that neither sector has is business as usual."
The Breakfast Briefing will take place on Tuesday 15 November in the Auditorium of the RAI Convention Center and is only open to exhibitors and VIP guests by invitation. you can claim your ticket for free by registering on the website.
