An Aston Martin more or less is no surprise in the (valet) parking of the Monaco Boat Show. In 2016, Aston Martin was also represented at the Boat Show for the first time. The thoroughly English brand introduced the AM37, a powerboat, with the DNA of Aston Martin in the fibers. The 37-footer is therefore equipped with all the luxury and equipment you would expect from a product bearing the Aston Martin name. Yet the boat is not as English as you might expect: the boat has a considerable Dutch touch.
Design by Marek Reichman
The AM37 was designed under the direction of Marek Reichman. He is the EVP and Chief Creative Officer of Aston Martin. As a designer, his name is also among designs such as the One-77 and the new DB11. These cars have been a major update to the company's design philosophy. It could all be a bit more modern and exciting and it certainly has become. The experience that the design team has gained with the modernization of the product lines has been taken into account in the design of the boat. As a result, it has become a design with a very specific line and combination of different materials. There is certainly no expense spared here.
Obviously practical luxury
With a length of 37 feet, or more than 11 meters, there is sufficient space on board. You can take about eight guests on it. These can settle on the leather sofas in the back. The course is plotted from the steering position, which is of course equipped with a carbon dashboard. In the dashboard you will find all the top-of-the-bill navigation and communication equipment and the built-in entertainment system. Everything is protected by a seamless glass window, which gives the whole a very sleek and modern appearance.
In the forecastle is a small, but complete galley with coffee machine, refrigerator, microwave and a toilet. A sleeping place can easily be created for a siesta or an overnight stay. This option makes the boat not only suitable as a day cruiser. On the aft deck there is the inevitable swim platform. In bad weather, a carbon bimini canopy is automatically folded up from the aft deck in three parts.
The power in powerboat
The AM37 comes in two versions. The regular AM37 will be equipped with two engine options. This version will be available with a choice of a twin 320 hp Mercury diesel or a twin 430 hp Mercury petrol engine. The top speed for both combinations should be around 45 knots. However, Aston Martin also has a special version on the drawing board. The AM37S should reach a top speed of five knots more. To reach 50 knots, a twin Mercury petrol engine of 520 hp is installed in the boat.
Dutch contribution
Where Aston Martin brings the DNA of the company into the boat, and with it the English class and understatement, the nautical contribution is from Dutch hands. Aston Martin has received support from Mulder Design for the design and Quintessence Yachts for the technical input. As far as we are concerned, the cooperation has turned out very well.
In the press release of Aston Martin, Maria Menozzi is mentioned. She is the CEO of Quintessence Yachts from Amstelveen. She calls the AM37 a new way to enjoy life at sea, an extraordinary powerboat and a revolution on the water.
We certainly agree with her that this is a very nice powerboat, with a lot of luxury. Of course, this luxury comes at a price: about 1.3 million British Pounds.
