Dutch yacht building innovates for success and customer satisfaction

The Netherlands has been known for years as the Netherlands Waterland. This is of course not unjustified. Yacht building benefits from the wetland environment: they understand the user better! They are also challenged by practice to think beyond the nose. The Dutch yacht building industry therefore supplies high-quality and innovative boats, which are also in great demand abroad.

The Dutch yacht building industry is doing well and this is also noticed at home and abroad. Innovations in Dutch yacht building provide the user with more comfort and better sailing characteristics. Furthermore, new technology leads to new sailing possibilities.

Expansion of shipyard capacity by Dutch superyachts

The superyachts are particularly striking. Dutch yacht builders play an important role in this. Superyachts built in the Netherlands find their way to owners all over the world. For the companies, this has led to the expansion of locations and facilities. In 2015, all leading companies were able to report significant expansions in yard capacity. Supply companies are also benefiting from this upward trend.

Responding to practice

Less eye-catching, but just as innovative are the many builders of non-seaworthy yachts for inland waterways. Here too, practical experience is indispensable: everyone knows, for example, that boats are not always populated by experienced captains. As a yacht builder you can respond to this.

The Dutch regulations allow sailing with slow-moving boats up to and including 15 meters. Many sail with a sailing license in their pocket, but in many cases only theoretical knowledge is required. At bridges and locks, and in ports, this lack of experience is often apparent.

Robust boats for hire

A source of entertainment for many, and a challenge for yacht builders. Robustness and sailing characteristics are adapted to the occasional captain. Comfort and ease of use are of course implemented throughout the boat, including for the other crew members.

Enjoy your electricity for longer

A second influence lies in the environmental requirements, which are becoming increasingly strict. These lead to innovations and new forms of sailing. Fully electric sailing is now also an option. The required power is captured by solar panels on board. Mooring in ports is then no longer a requirement and making longer trips is suddenly within reach. Technical innovation thus leads to a different way of holidaying on the water. Sailing becomes even more enjoying nature.

Quiet and cleaner ship designs

Meanwhile, the boat makes less noise and no longer emits exhaust gases. A direction that will probably be chosen more and more. Because the technology is becoming more sophisticated, it can be applied to increasingly larger ships.

All in all, innovation drives Dutch yacht building and boating enthusiasts also benefit from it. New technology leads to new ship designs that sail quieter and cleaner. The customer sees his comfort and possibilities increase, while convenience serves the sailing person when he takes place behind the helm. For those who do not yet want to purchase a ship, the rental companies are ready to serve the (hobby) captain.
