Who buys the most extravagant yacht in the world?
According to the Sunday Times, it got its name because it would top all superyacht lists. It was designed by Philippe Starck. It has a bombproof master suite. On his maiden voyage, he went on a shopping spree to pick up some expensive paintings. And it looks like a super villain's yacht from a James Bond movie. Enthusiasts already recognize him: The motor yacht “A”. And it's for sale...

I'd rather sail

The 119 meter long superyacht is (still) owned by the couple Melnichenko. The extremely wealthy couple of Mijardairs has a new yacht on order. This new ship was again designed by Philippe Starck. It is now on its sea trials and should be delivered in 2017. The Melnichenkos have chosen to go sailing. Not on just any boat again. The three-masted sailing yacht “A” is 142.8 meters long. The schooner has a cruising speed of 16 knots and a top speed of 21 knots. It is expected that approximately 55 crew members will be at their disposal.

A real superyacht

The motor yacht A has apparently become redundant and has been for sale since August 2016. You don't just put a boat like that on Marktplaats. Construction costs of the ship were around USD 300 million. The Melnichenkos were given a special-looking ship for this, with extensive equipment. Opinions are still divided about the appearance of the ship. It looks more like a battleship or a submarine. There is nothing in the ship that resembles a naval vessel. Philippe Starck designed an exclusive interior with three swimming pools, lots of space to receive guests and lots of space for the three tenders, also designed by Starck.

Safety

The ship is also very safe. The master suite is only accessible through a fingerprint sensor secured door. The master suite is also secured with bombproof glass all around. In addition to the tenders, those who want to leave the ship quickly also have access to a spacious helicopter pad. The captain has access to the most modern equipment. Shifting the ship a few meters can be done via the ship's rudder, a joystick, or have it refurbished by the computer, which can also control all propulsion systems itself. The order to do that is of course given via a touchscreen.

Buyers?

The question remains, who should buy the ship. Firstly, it is a second-hand car and that means that the richest of the earth ignore the ship. Millionaire and boat enthusiast David Geffen has bought a second-hand one twice, but it is already provided. Potential buyers are of course also located in the Middle East. The top ten largest superyachts are almost all owned by sheikhs from this area.

Extravagant target group

To find a couple who rival the Melnichenkos in extravagance, you have to go to the United Kingdom. The couple James and Petra Stunt seem to fit the target group for this ship. They too have something for sale right now: The Manor, in the hills of Los Angeles, is the most expensive real estate in the United States. A sale of this enormous property would be a nice drink in the purchase costs of the motor yacht. However, a quick sale of the property does not appear to be in the line of expectations. The property has an asking price of 200 million US Dollars.
